Wonderful Wednesday is here again, with a Wonderful Wednesday set of Tunes from My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day. These are the Best Songs for a Wednesday, Tracks that are Heavy 90’s (with a late 80’s Number thrown in), that gift nostalgia, and remind us that these Tunes are Timeless. So Turn Up the Volume, focus your memories, dig out that Baby Doll dress, that Flannel shirt, those Doc Martens, and Press Play.

Song 1 is My Favorite Song from The Breeders’ Album Last Splash. “Drivin’ On 9” is such a Quintessential Road Trip Song, one that would make any Road Trip Mix better. Next up is the “late 80’s Number” with “Motorcrash” from The Sugarcubes. Maybe this is one you’d want to leave off of a Road Trip Mix, even though it does have that Great driving Beat and Rhythm and Catchy-ness. One of my All-Time Favorite Songs from The Replacements is next. A Song that always reminds me of waiting on the platform in Chicago. Track 4 is The Lemonheads (see pictured above) and their Song about not being able to articulate feelings, “If I Could Talk I’d Tell You”. Finally, Song 5 is one of the Best Songs from the Early 90’s, a Song that will Forever and Always remind me of the short-lived TV Series, My So-Called Life.

You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify or YouTube link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I add each five songs shared to both playlists each day, so they expand as the Month unfolds. Each Month will have its own ever-expanding Playlist, so if you missed a day, or a past week, its all there for your audio perusal.

My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day:

 1. “Drivin’ on 9” :: The Breeders

Drivin’ on 9.
I sure miss you.
Pass a motel,
looking in the blinds.”

One of the Best Road Trip Songs. My Favorite Song from The Breeders, and one of my All-Time Favorite Tunes from 1993. I actually think I like this Song more now than I did in 1993.

2. “Motorcrash” :: The Sugarcubes

Dangerous terribly bloody motorcrash,
destructive motorcrash.”

A very Happy sounding Song about something violent. A Happy, Pop Song about a Car Crash. I wonder what this Song would sound like Mashed Up with The Normal’s “Warm Leatherette”, a paired up set of Songs about the “car crash set”.

3. “Skyway” :: The Replacements

You take the skyway,
high above the busy little one-way.
In my stupid hat and gloves,
at night I lie awake,
wonderin’ if I’ll sleep,
wonderin’ if we’ll meet out in the street.”

Oh my Stars I Love this Song so much.

4. “If I Could Talk I’d Tell You” :: The Lemonheads

“If I could talk I’d tell you.
If I could smile I’d let you know.
You are far and away my most imaginary friend.

Is this a Song about an Imaginary Friend, or a Song about Fading Friendships? I think I want it to be about the former. What would a Mix sound like that is just filled with Songs for the Imaginary Friend you had as a child? Would this one be on it?

5. “Late at Night” :: Buffalo Tom

I held her hands so tight,
’cause words don’t come out right,
and she sees things at night.”

I will never not think of That Scene (not available on YouTube anymore, unfortunately), in the hallway, with Jordan and Angela when I hear this Song.

So, there goes Wednesday, flailing around in the 90’s (with one spin into the late 80’s). I hope you enjoyed all of My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day. I’d love to hear what Music you are Obsessing over. Share in the Comments please.
