My Top Music Obsessions of the Day :: 4/15/17
A Bonus Saturday Round of My Top Music Obsessions of the Day is here to add some Awesome Sounds to you weekend, gifting the ears with 5 Melodic Gems to Spin. Whether it’s a Lazy Saturday Morning Listen, a mid-Afternoon Play Press, or a getting ready for a Saturday Night Spark of Song, these 5 Songs will add some Extra Sparkle to the day, and night.
The Saturday Special Top 5 starts with Lola Marsh (pictured above) singing “She’s a Rainbow”, a Perfect lead-in into Lana Del Rey’s Song “Love”. These Two Songs just belong together. Third in the Lyrical-line is a Beautiful, Chill-Inducing Tune from Daughter. We sure do Love Daughter around here at lyriquediscorde. Joy Division’s Classic is next, inspired by my continuing watch of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, and then keeping with the Retro feel, Yazoo’s “Only You” brings in Song Number 5, which wraps Saturday up Timelessly.
You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify or YouTube link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I add each five songs shared to both playlists each day, so they expand as the Month unfolds. Each Month will have its own ever-expanding Playlist, so if you missed a day, or a past week, its all there for your audio perusal.
My Top Music Obsessions of the Day:
1. “She’s a Rainbow” :: Lola Marsh
“For I remember,
the courage I had as a child,
various colors I’m hiding inside –
she’s a rainbow.”
Beautifully melancholic, gorgeously dark with a layer of sparkles amidst the shadows, and so cinematic. I see a desert story, desolate, yet dreamy, or some post-modern take on Film Noir, set in Los Angeles, the din and decay juxtaposing with the glitter and grandiose notions of fame, and fatality.
2. “Love” :: Lana Del Rey
“You get ready,
you get all dressed up,
to go nowhere in particular.
Back to work,
or the coffee shop.
Doesn’t matter ’cause it’s enough,
to be young,
and in love.”
This Song fits so Perfectly right after the Lola Marsh one. Lana’s has more hope soaked into it, though it still has her melancholic tone. I love the hopefulness in it, the youthful take on young love that transcends generations because “young and in love” has always been a thing, right? Especially “first love”. Though you don’t have to be young to be crazy in love, do you?
3. “Tomorrow” :: Daughter
we’ll be lost amongst the leaves,
in a wind that chills the skeletons of trees.
And when the moon,
I will leave two lines.
Just find my love,
then find me.”
Daughter’s Music just takes my breath from me. Every time I think I have found my Favorite song of theirs, the most beautiful, I find another. This one is definitely my right now Favorite.
4. “Love Will Tear Us Apart” :: Joy Division
“When the routine bites hard,
and ambitions are low,
and the resentment rides high,
but emotions wont grow,
and were changing our ways,
taking different roads,
love will tear us apart again.”
Timeless. This Song is so timeless to me. And it never ceases to hit me hard.
5. “Only You” :: Yazoo
“All I needed was the love you gave.
All I needed for another day .
And all I ever knew,
I’ve had this Song in my head for most of this week. It had been playing in a dream I had early Tuesday morning. The dream itself is hazy, blurred images of faces and muffled conversations, but this song, that I remember clearly. It was playing from an old jukebox, a table top one in a diner, but not from the table I sat at. It kept playing, over-and-over, as if someone kept dropping coins in and selecting it, repeatedly.
