My Top Music Obsessions of the Day :: 4/14/17
It’s time for Friday’s Epic Song Mix via My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day, put together with Friday in mind, as well as the gear up and get ready for the weekend sentimentality. This is another Fine set of Songs that fit right in to the Play Loud category we started yesterday, so just do it, Turn up the Music and Play it Loud.
We start it all off with The Specials singing about “Friday Night, Saturday Morning”, which is an Awesome way to get into that weekend mindset. The Jam comes in next with another Stellar Song from The Gift. This is a New Favorite of mine this week, a Tune I keep hitting repeat on, to play it over and over again. Arctic Monkeys (pictured above) bring us a Solid Hit from their debut Album, “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor”, which feels like a Perfect Friday Song, both lyrically and sonically. My Favorite Band from my teen years, Duran Duran, is Track 4 of My Top 5 with one of my All-Time Favorites of theirs, “My Own Way”. Then there was 5, and who better to end Today’s Top 5 then David Bowie singing about “Friday On My Mind”, when we are all there, too, with Friday on our minds.
You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify or YouTube link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I add each five songs shared to both playlists each day, so they expand as the Month unfolds. Each Month will have its own ever-expanding Playlist, so if you missed a day, or a past week, its all there for your audio perusal.
My Top Music Obsessions of the Day:
1. “Friday Night, Saturday Morning” :: The Specials
“Out of bed at eight am.
Out my head by half past ten.
Out with mates and dates and friends –
that’s what I do at weekends.”
Isn’t this just the Perfect Friday Song? You Press Play and it Presses Play for your Friday Night that sometimes unfolds all the way until Saturday Morning. We’ve all been there, right?
2. “Carnation” :: The Jam
“If you gave me a dream for my pocket,
you’d be plugging in the wrong socket.
With me there’s no room for the future.
With me there’s no room with a view at all.”
Youth is embedded in this Song to me, juxtaposed with a wisdom that is wrapped tightly in so much of Weller’s Songwriting. This is a New Favorite Song of mine from The Jam’s collection of Tunes, coming off of what is becoming my Favorite Album of theirs, The Gift.
3. “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” :: Arctic Monkeys
“I bet that you look good on the dance floor,
I don’t know if your looking for romance or,
I don’t know what you’re looking for.
I said, I bet that you look good on the dance floor,
dancing to electro-pop,
like a robot,
The first Arctic Monkeys Song I heard. This Song makes you want to dance, whether you look good doing it, or not. This Album, Whatever People Say I am, That’s What I’m Not, their debut, will always be my Favorite of theirs. So many Songs I love on it. I hope you all get to dance at least once this weekend, even if it is just bouncing in the driver’s seat during a Friday night commute, in your bedroom, or out in a club.
4. “My Own Way” :: Duran Duran
“I’m never bothered,
what you say,
someone’s kid just lives for today,
it ain’t your problem anyway.”
I will always Love this Song, and I will always prefer the Album version to the Video version, that is speeded up, with a toned down bass line. I mean, listen to that bass? Why would you want to turn it down?
5. “Friday on My Mind” :: David Bowie
“Gonna have fun in the city,
be with my girl,
she’s so pretty.
She looks fine tonight,
she is out of sight to me.
Tonight I’ll spend my bread,
I’ll lose my head,
I’ve got to get to night.
Monday I’ll have Friday on my mind.”
Cheers to Friday!
