Welcome to the Top Tunes for a Wednesday on Today’s installment of My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day. The sun was slow to come out this morning, making the Mix of Music that came to mind a bit more on the Melancholic and Mellow side, or perhaps it is that middle-of-the-week need for a breeze of easy breathing, a blissful exhale of what has transpired, thus far, in the week, so that we can take on what comes next. Either way, Wednesday is a Favorite day, and here are 5 of my Favorite Songs to Press Play to Today.
Wednesday’s Mix of Top 5 Music Obsessions starts with an Oasis Song that yesterday’s Britpop Post inspired. A friend mentioned “Talk Tonight” as one of her Favorites, and after listening to it a few times this morning I can definitely see why. Maybe you will, too. Song 2 is another Track featured prominently in the Netflix Original Series, 13 Reasons Why. It was a big part of the Episode I watched last night, and I woke with it in my head. It is such a Beautiful Song. Next is a Favorite Song of mine from Radical Face, my Most Loved Song of theirs, for certain. “Bloodbuzz Ohio” comes in the 4th spot, a Song that always reminds me of driving on the freeway with a friend of mine, both of us singing-a-long to it, together. My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day for Today comes to a close with my Favorite Sia Song, “Fair Game”, a Track that hits me on a very personal level, every single time I Play it.
You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify or YouTube link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I add each five songs shared to both playlists each day, so they expand as the Month unfolds. Each Month will have its own ever-expanding Playlist, so if you missed a day, or a past week, its all there for your audio perusal.
My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day:
1. “Talk Tonight” :: Oasis
“I want to talk tonight,
until the mornin’ light,
’bout how you saved my life.
You and me –
see how we are.
You and me –
see how we are.”
Is there anything quite as amazing as conversations that last long into the night, and well into morning? To connect with someone like that, to be able to talk until all the hours just disappear, that is something rare, and beautiful. Those Lyrics above, they remind me of moments like that.
2. “The Night We Met” :: Lord Huron
“I am not the only traveler,
who has not repaid his debt.
I’ve been searching for a trail to follow again.
Take me back to the night we met.”
This Song was used so skillfully, beautifully and emotionally impactful in the Netflix Series 13 Reasons Why that now the Song immediately reminds me of the Episode, and Scenes it was part of. The Song became a character almost. I love when Visuals and Music can come together like that, when a Song becomes something Cinematic, evolving the Story it tells. Music is such Magic to me.
3. “Welcome Home, Son” :: Radical Face
“Sleep don’t visit,
so I choke on sun.
And the days blur into one.
And the backs of my eyes hum,
with things I’ve never done.”
As someone who has struggled with insomnia for nearly all my life, this Song, and those Lyrics above, hit deep and true. Sometimes I think I’ve just learned to live off little to no sleep. That blur of tired, of sleep deprivation, sometimes it feels normal to me. This Song has been part of a middle-of-the-night Soundtrack I’ve played before, headphones in place, my eyes pleading to shut, thoughts fighting for purchase of my mind, of my night. At times the Music quells it though, quieting the noise, the night, and it lulls me to dreams. Its that Magic thing again. Music is Magic.
4. “Bloodbuzz Ohio” :: The National
“I still owe money to the money to the money I owe,
I never thought about love when I thought about home.
I still owe money to the money to the money I owe,
The floors are falling out from everybody I know.”
This Song is the turn it up Loud Song of these Top 5.
5. “Fair Game” :: Sia
“You got too close and,
I pushed and pushed hoping you’d bite,
so I could run, run,
and that I did but through the dust,
you saw those teeth marks,
they weren’t all yours
you had been thrust,
into a history,
that had not worked for me,
into a history,
from which I could not flee.
So go on shake me,
shake until I give it up,
wearing me down baby,
I know that we could make some love.”
This Song means so much to me. My Favorite of Sia’s, always.
