My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day for Thursday meet at the crossroads of dance and chill, infusing “Friday Eve” with an eclectic energy of Music to help get us through the day. It starts out with a new track off of the anticipated new album from Goldfrapp. From there we here some Chemical Brothers, who enlisted some help from Beck. Flunk comes around to spin this mix of Top 5 Songs around. Daughter grasps hands with M83 to take us into a breathing space, easing our minds and soothing us into the flow of another busy day.  Turn these two up loud though. Just because they are melodic and mellow, does not mean they do not benefit from some booming sounds.

You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I add each five songs shared to the playlist each day, so the playlist evolves as the week does.

My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day:

1. “Anymore” :: Goldfrapp

“You’re what I want.
You’re what I need.
Give me your love.
Make me a freak.”

Normal is overrated. Love makes the living parts easier. Freaks, especially Music ones, are everything.

2. “Wide Open” :: The Chemical Brothers, featuring Beck

“Some day love’s gonna hurt me.
Turn back,
and soon I’ll believe it.”

I keep coming back to this song ever since I found it a few weeks back. It is as addictive as it is beautiful. It reminds me of a book I just finished, and the way a journey of self found love, and home, unexpectedly. If I were to create a playlist for the story I would want to include this track.

3. “Spring to Kingdom Come” :: Flunk

“I´m waiting for spring to come to my kingdom.”

Winter is never really a thing here, and yet the rains brought on this longing for the sun. Spring becomes Summer quicker than the months would signify. The weather turning quickly from downpours to the collective whirring of air conditioners and climate controls. Do we have one more rainstorm yet to come?

4. “Medicine” :: Daughter

“You could still be,
what you want to,
what you said you were,
when I met you.”

This song just reignited a story I’d put away for awhile. I love when that happens. Music my forever muse. I think I’ll start working on it (again) later today/tonight.

5. “Lower Your Eyelids to Die with the Sun” :: M83

So cinematic. I close my eyes for the time it takes this song to play, letting it wash over me, allowing anything I am feeling to release, swirl and twirl and fray, and then let go. This helps to ease my jagged emotions this week, letting go of some new insecurities/fears that have surfaced, and breathe in all the good. Trust it to stay. I mean, oh my stars, this really is a beautiful song, and Music, it makes it, and me, so much better.

That was this Thursday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the day. What has you singing-a-long today?
