My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/15/17
Listen here at Spotify

Welcome Wednesday’s music for My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day, starting off with some Weller for Wednesday. From there Throttle takes over with a high intensity cover version of “Hit the Road Jack” (not sure what I enjoy more, this take on the song, or the video). The Go-Go’s flashback, and The Libertines warn about looking back into the sun. The five for today ends with some Small Faces, the song of the five that requires a turn-up-the-volume moment, so come on, turn it up.

You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I add each five songs shared to the playlist each day, so the playlist evolves as the week does.

1. “Sunflower” :: Paul Weller

I’d send you a flower,
a sunflower bright,
while you cloud my days,
messing up my nights.”

Such a beautiful song full of love lost and longing. Another song that showcases what a songwriter Weller is. As I dig in deep and discover/rediscover his music I come up with a new favorite. This week – this song – “Sunflower” – is my favorite.

There is something about this song that reminds me of The Zombies.

2. “Hit the Road Jack” :: Throttle

“Hit the road Jack,
and don’t you come back no more,
no more,
no more,
no more.”

Though Ray’s version is my ultimate favorite, this take on “Hit the Road Jack” is stellar, as is the video. Doesn’t it just make you want to dance?

3. “We Got the Beat” :: The Go-Go’s

See the people walking down the street,
fall in line,
just watching all their feet.
They don’t know where they wanna go,
but they’re walking in time.”

Talk about wanting to dance. This song immediately brings back junior high, PE class, in the locker room, talking music with a new friend (music always is the key). She brought a vinyl of Beauty and the Beat to school one day and I took it all in, the cover art, the inside sleeve, before I took it home to listen. We sang this song, and “This Town” in the small hallways for weeks after.

4. “Don’t Look Back Into the Sun” :: The Libertines

“And they’ll never forgive you,
but they won’t let you go,
oh no.
She’ll never forgive you,
but she won’t let you go,
oh no.”

Sometimes you hear a song you loved, a song you haven’t heard in a long time, and you have to play it, over and over, and over again. Today that song is this song. That first Libs album, Up the Bracket, will always be my favorite. So many memories.

5. “It’s Too Late” :: Small Faces

“I’m askin’ you baby,
why make me wait?
You better love me now
(before It’s too late).”

Did I mention this is a turn-up-the-volume song? Well, what are you waiting for? Turn it up!

So, there you have it…Wednesday’s Top 5 Music Obsessions of the day. What are you spinning today?
