My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/8/17
Listen here at Spotify

Wednesday’s a favorite day of the week. The day is already beautiful outside, clear skies, sun bright, slight breeze making its presence known. Sleep eludes some nights, but last night she came with kindness, and hazy dreams. I woke with music in my head and started to contemplate already what would make My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day.

Today’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day begins with a beautiful song about finality and expectation. It leads into a new discovery song from Turin Breaks which I’ve been listening to, off-and-on, the last two days. Next is Gene Clark. I’d originally wanted the Paul Weller/Death In Vegas cover, but it doesn’t seem to be available via Spotify. Camera Obscura and Spoon make it five, and it is all ready to hit play, and turn the volume up.

You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I will add each five songs shared to the playlist each day.

My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/7/17

1. “The Funeral” :: Band of Horses

To the outside,
the dead leaves lay on the lawn,
for they don’t have trees to hang upon.

This is one of those songs that sounds incredible in the car, with the volume up high, and the sky’s light dim – whether it be nearly sunrise, the first presence of nightfall, or that middle of the night juxtaposition of dark and city light.

2. “Long Distance” :: Turin Brakes

Well if this gets ugly,
I’d swear,
this ain’t our last chance.
The vultures that circle,
my head,
are flying alongside;
the world’s turning.”

There seems to be a correlation of themes between this song, and the one before. Something about mortality, of fate, of finality. Or maybe this is just illustrating the downsides of long distance relationships?

3. “So You Say You Lost Your Baby :: Gene Clark

So you say you lost your baby?
Do you know that your the one?”

This song reminds me of music my Aunt used to play on her 8-Track player. I remember it among the many tunes I’d play during long, endless seeming, Summer nights.

I’m going to include the cover I’d originally wanted to share just because it really is wonderful.

“So You Say You Lost Your Baby” :: Death In Vegas & Paul Weller

4. “Let’s Get Out of This Country” :: Camera Obscura

“We’ll find a cathedral city.
You can be handsome,
I’ll be pretty.”

Song I woke with in my head. I think it may have been in one of my dreams, too.

5. “You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb” :: Spoon

“Blow out that cherry bomb.
Blow out that cherry bomb,
for me.”

The turn it up and dance around tune of the day.

Happy Wednesday, everyone. Hope this Wednesday’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day was enjoyable.
What are you spinning today?

  1. YES! Band of Horses….Funeral. This is one of my favorite songs and due to my extreme laziness I never bothered to find their band name when this song came on my Pandora. But I absolutely love this song. You ever heard of a band called “The Slip”? They remind me very much of them. Thanks for the post, if it weren’t for you I’d never know there name

    1. Glad to help. You should check out some of their other tracks, too. I have not heard of The Slip – I will check them out. Thank you for the recommendation.
