My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/6/17
Listen here at Spotify

Monday morning came before the sun. A beautiful day, wide smiles and music playing is my “status” today. To-Do lists persist, but there is so much to be grateful for that I hardly mind, and there is music…always music…swirling and swaying through my office.

Today’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day starts The Flaming Lips dreamy-poppy ode to mortality, and love. Then a Nick Drake track that sang through my car during my to-work commute. Next up is “Another Sunny Day”, which it is, the sun bright in the sky. Sam Cooke croons and then Nouvelle Vague paints their version of an Echo & The Bunnymen song in that way that they do so well.

You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I will add each five songs shared to the playlist each day.

My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/6/17

1. “Do You Realize?” :: The Flaming Lips

“Do you realize,
that you have the most beautiful face?”

Would you call this a love song? Or, would you call it a song about death and dying, a song about facing our own mortality? Is it both? I think I always take it as both. Loving and dying are all part of living and life, right?

2. “Day is Done” :: Nick Drake

“When the day is done,
down to earth then sinks the sun,
along with everything that was lost and won –
when the day is done.”

Is this song about mortality, too? In some ways it seems like it is. Sometimes I forget how much I enjoy Nick Drake’s songs, and his vocals. It was nice to be reminded when my boyfriend sent this song to me this morning.

3. “Another Sunny Day” :: Belle & Sebastian

“Another sunny day,
I met you up in the garden.
You were digging plants,
I dug you,
beg your pardon.”

This song just fits this day.

Would anyone care if I danced around in my office?

4. “You Send Me” :: Sam Cooke

“You thrill me,
I know you,
you thrill me.
you thrill me.
Honest you do.”

Oh Sam, your voice slays me.

Now this one is definitely a love song.

4. “The Killing Me” :: Nouvelle Vague

up against your will,
through the thick and thin,
he will wait until,
you give yourself to him.”

Another Nouvelle Vague cover that is so unique. Their take on it tells a different story, to me. It take a slightly off-kilter turn, which at time sits a bit uneasy, especially with the calliope/carnival sounds in the background.

Cheers to Monday’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions. Hope you enjoyed.
