My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/3/17
Listen here at Spotify

Friday, Friday, Friday. The end of the week came quickly, as happens often with the busiest of weeks. Tomorrow I will be in a different city — San Francisco — to see the Misfit Cabaret’s GRIMM (see details here). Today though, it is work and visits with friends, laundry and packing a bag, and, of course, music.

Today’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day starts with a Dramarama song that has a lot of personal significance, then its a song from the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack, a film I need to re-watch soon. Next up some Tori, followed by Ride and The Chameleons. A bit of a moody and melancholic mix of songs this Friday.

You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I will add each five songs shared to the playlist each day.

My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/3/17

1. “[I’d Like to] Volunteer, Please” :: Dramarama

“She’s bending someone’s ear.
I’d like to volunteer,
volunteer,
volunteer,
please.”

Dramarama is loaded with memories, both good and bad. This song was part of a long history of love and heartbreak, life and loss. It is a beautiful song though, and will always be a favorite of mine.

2. “Hot One” :: Shudder To Think

“Well you’re the grand wild,
but darling,
I’m a mess.”

All that talk of time machines to go back and see a Glam Rock band had me thinking about Velvet Goldmine, and this song.

3. “Caught a Light Sneeze” :: Tori Amos

“Caught a lite sneeze.
Dreamed a little dream.
Made my own pretty hate machine.”

Boys for Pele has been in rotation lately, for me. It is currently my favorite Tori, though that really does change all the time.

Love the Nine Inch Nails reference in the lyrics above.

4. “Vapour Trail” :: Ride

“First you look so strong,
then you fade away.
The sun will blind my eyes,
I love you anyway.”

The song I woke up with in my head. It was in my early morning dream, too, though most of the details are hazy.

I’m listening to an audio book about a girl who lost her vision in one eye by looking directly into the sun.

5. “Swamp Thing” :: The Chameleons

“When the world and his wife are on my back again.
Not enough pleasure,
too much pain.”

I always loved the lyric “when the world and his wife are on my back again”, the images it conjures up, the idea of the world and his wife weighing heavy. Or, the idea of carrying around the whole world, and his wife, as you wander through your days. It always resonated with me.

There was Friday’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions. Hope you enjoyed.
