My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 3/1/17
Listen here at Spotify
Wednesdays are a favorite. Today is no exception. The sun is bright in the sky, warm rays sneaking in through my office windows saying good morning to my skin. It has been so gloomy and grey lately, so this is a happy reprieve.
The best time to hit play on My top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day selections.
The first track is a new one from Moby. A collaboration with The Void Pacific Choir and KDA. Then it is a dip into the Brit Pop pool with a big Blur hit. Next up, and pictured above, the lovely Marc Bolan, then its a visit to 1983 with some Fun Boy Three. We end it all, for the day, at least, with The Vaselines “Son of a Gun”.
As always, these songs are best played loudly. So, go on, turn that volume up. It’s Wednesday!
You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I will add each five songs shared to the playlist each day.
1. “Are You Lost in the World Like Me?” :: Moby, featuring The Void Pacific Choir & KDA
“Are you lost in the world like me?
If the systems have failed?
Are you free?”
I’m not sure what I am enjoying more – the song, or this video.
2. “Girls & Boys” :: Blur
“Girls who are boys,
who like boys to be girls,
who do boys like they’re girls,
who do girls like they’re boys –
always should be someone you really love.”
It is impossible to play this song and not want to dance.
3. “Hot Love (A Side)” :: T. Rex
“I don’t mean to be bold,
a-but a-may I hold your hand?”
If I had a time machine I would use it to go back and see artists and bands that I missed seeing live. First on my list? T. Rex. Can I time travel tomorrow and find myself at a Glam Rock show? Maybe a tour done for the Electric Warrior album?
4. “Tunnel of Love” (Kid Jensen Session, 1/16/83) :: Fun Boy Three
“Walk through the fields where the flowers are growing,
carve out your names on the first tree you see.
There are 22 catches when you strike your matches,
and get down on your knees.”
Another band I’m finding myself re-discovering lately – Fun Boy Three. This is a current favorite, this song, and this version.
5. “Son of a Gun” :: The Vaselines
“Swing swing up and down,
turn turn turn around,
round round round and about and over again.”
Turn is the song I woke with in my head. This one really, really needs to be turned up loud. Also, if you can, dance to this one, too.
