My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 2/15/17
Listen here on Spotify
Wednesdays are a favorite day of mine.
So, let’s hear what Wednesday’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions have in store, starting with some Gaga remixed by The Horrors that take us into some Norwegian “folktronica”, then on to some ’60’s garage. Next up is some Brit Pop (on the melancholic melodic side), ending with something with a bit more energy.
You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I will add each five songs shared to the playlist each day.
1. “Bloody Mary (The Horrors Remix)” :: Lady Gaga
“Love is just a history that they may prove,
and when you’re gone,
I’ll tell them my religion’s you.”
This remix reminds me of the music from American Horror Hotel. It reminds me, as well, of nights in darkened clubs with darkened eyes and clothes, clove cigarette smoke billowing around the twirl and twist of bodies on the dance floor, the beat trembling through the floor boards, and the collective blood stream of the crowd.
2. “Common Sense” :: Flunk
“You blow my mind,
and ill blow yours.”
I like the slow build of this song. There is a fluidity in the movement of vocals and chorus and chords. It feels almost like the give-and-take of a good conversation.
3. “Ninety-Nine and a Half” :: The Standells
“Ninety-nine and a half just won’t do,
oh no no,
just won’t get it,
Got to have a hundred.”
Song I woke with in my head this morning.
4. “The Drugs Don’t Work” :: The Verve
“All this talk of getting old,
it’s getting me down, my love.
Like a cat in a bag,
waiting to drown –
this time I’m comin’ down.”
I remember listening to this song, for the first time, while parked by the ocean in Newport Beach. There were emotions I brought to the song, and emotions the song brought to me, that day. Some songs just work that way.
5. “Ghostwriter” :: RJD2
I promise I will.
Promise I will…”
This song makes me want to dance. Or write…for hours.
That was Wednesday’s My Top Five Music Obsessions. What are yours today?
