My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 2/13/17
Listen here on Spotify

Monday, Monday. Let’s start Monday with some music, shall we? For this Monday’s My Top 5 Music Obsessions we have some high energy electro-pop, some trip hop and brit pop from the 90’s, a deliriously gorgeous collaboration and a current indie rock duo from NYC.

You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I will add each five songs shared to the playlist each day.

My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day

1. “Breathing Underwater” (CHR Summer Mix) :: Metric

“I’m the blade.
You’re the knife.”

Full of the kind of energy I am feeling myself today. The sun is back out, the skies are a clear kind of blue that feels a bit made up, and there is a residual smile on my face from days just past. I keep hitting repeat on this one so it definitely belongs in the #1 spot for the day/week.

2. “Run Run Blood” :: Phantogram

“Hey wolf,
there’s lions in here.
There’s lions in here,
there’s lions in here.”

Loud. This one needs to be played loud. This one changes tone after the “Summer Mix” above, yet there is a similarity weaving through both songs, lyrically and sonically. It almost feels like mirror opposites – day/night, light/dark, awake/dream.

3. “Blue Jeans” :: Blur

“And don’t think I’m walking out of this.
She don’t mind.
Whatever I say,
whatever I say.
I don’t really want to change a thing,
I want to stay this way forever.”

I’ve been re-obsessing over Blur lately. This is the song to obsessive over this week, without a doubt. The lyrics really resonate.

4. “Part of the Process” :: Morcheeba

“It’s all part of the process,
we all love looking down.
All we want is some success.”

My favorite Morcheeba album. One of my favorite 90’s Trip Hop albums. This song never loses its impact on me. I always have to sing-a-long to the chorus. I always want to dance around. I always want to turn it up (and hit replay, and listen again).

5. “The Spoils” :: Massive Attack, featuring Hope Sandoval

“But I somehow slowly love you,
and wanna keep you the same.”

This is so beautiful. Hope’s voice slays me.

Monday’s My Top Five Song Obsessions of the Day began with high energy and ended with a chilled, lilting sound. We heard from Metric with Emily Haines, Phantogram’s NYC duo, a Blur track from the Modern Life is Rubbish album, and the gorgeous collaboration of Massive Attack and Hope Sandoval.
