My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 2/9/17
Listen here on Spotify
The week is winding down, but the songs are still coming in, five at a time. Cheers to Thursday’s Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day.
You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I will add each five songs shared to the playlist each day.
1. “Sea Spray” (live) :: Paul Weller
“Sweep me up and take me with you,
to see the things that stand before you.
Show me all this world has for me –
I want all the light can show me.”
My favorite track, thus far, on Weller’s 22 Dreams album. His storytelling in this song is timeless and ageless. This song could be an ode to the twilight years of life, the last gasps until its all done…or, it could be a younger person’s song, something sung for returning home, maybe not for good, but going back, nonetheless
2. “Heroes” (live) :: David Bowie
you can be mean.
I’ll drink all the time.
‘Cause we’re lovers,
and that is a fact.
Yes we’re lovers,
and that is that.”
In my top 5 favorite songs of all-time list. This song means so much to me. Every time I listen to it I hear something different in it. Today, its something in the lyrics, something in David’s tone in this live rendition, something that made me pause and feel and, of course, sing-a-long. Like a favorite book reread often, favorite songs can reveal new truths and perspectives, notes and nuances, on a repeat play.
3. “Kill for Love” :: Chromatics
“In my mind,
I was waiting for change,
while the world just stayed the same.”
Those lyrics above say so much to me. All that path less taken, the beauty of not being “normal”, of not being afraid of change.
4. “Uncertain Smile” :: The The
“I’ve got you under my skin,
where the rain can’t get in.
But if the sweat pours out,
just shout –
I’ll try to swim and pull you out.”
5. “Age of Consent” :: New Order
“And I’m not the kind that likes to tell you,
just what you want me to.
You’re not the kind that needs to tell me,
about the birds and the bees.”
Quite possibly my favorite New Order song.
There you go – Thursday’s My Top Five Song Obsessions of the Day. It began with Paul Weller’s “Sea Spray” live, then ebbed and flowed into Bowie’s “Heroes”, also live. Sonic switch then to “Kill for Love”, which electo-blended itself into The The’s “Uncertain Smile”. It all culminated into New Order, which seemed like the perfect place to end – today.
