My Top 5 Music Obsessions of the Day :: 2/6/17
Listen here on Spotify

Another week. Another Monday. Are you ready for a new Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day?

You can click to listen to each video below, or choose the Spotify link to listen to the My Top 5 Song Obsessions of the Day :: Top Five playlist. I will add each five songs shared to the playlist each day.

1. “Let’s Go” :: The Feelies

“Well, alright.
Well, alright.
Let’s go.”

Something in this tune reminds me of late 80’s Summers and some of the music I was listening to back then. It reminds me of my old red Honda civic with the hatchback and all the stickers, inside, and outside. It reminds of of cassette tapes, or that teal blue suitcase I used to carry them around with. It reminds me, as well, of drives up and down PCH, in late July.

2. “Vitamin C” :: CAN

“She is living,
in and out of tune.”

Cinematic in sound, and feeling. I’m reminded of some of the music that came out of the booths on Olvera Street, when I was a young girl and visited there with my Grandfather. I want to write to this song. I am adding it to my “to write” playlist that I’m starting to compile.

3. “Motion Picture Soundtrack” :: Radiohead

“It’s not like the movies.
They fed us on,
little white lies.”

Reacquainting myself with the Kid A album through a live performance of it, in its entirety, blew me away. I see myself getting lost in it for awhile. This is the song standing out to me today.

4. “A&E” :: Goldfrapp

“I’m in a backless dress,
on a pastel ward,
that’s shining.
Think I want you still,
but there may be pills at work.”

My favorite Goldfrapp song, closely tied with “Strict Machine”. I remember the first time, or two, I listened to it I didn’t get what was actually going on. The lyric above is so cleverly written that it takes a bit of notice to truly understand. I wrote a character once whose mother was based a bit on this song. She was hospitalized, wearing “…a backless dress on a pastel ward”, due to an obsessive love she had that took her over.

5. “Road to Nowhere” :: Nouvelle Vague

“We’re on a road to nowhere,
come on inside.”

This song makes me want to take a road trip. Right now. Today.

That’s it for this Monday’s My Top Five Song Obsessions of the Day. We heard from The Feelies, courtesy of Spotify’s “Discover Weekly” mix. Next up was “Vitamin C” from CAN, then on to some Kid A Radiohead, an album, and song, I can’t seem to get enough of. “A&E” followed, bringing it that kick in the creativity that I think I needed to get back to writing, and it all ended (for today) with a cover song.
