Well I wish I had known you then :: SOTD

Keep Art Alive :: Art by Kate Pugsley

Like a Coin-Operated Lullaby
by me

Five steps to disaster
five more to a dizzy debauchery
and he was you
yes, darling
and she was me

Tricks of the trade
a striped violin playing lines
dance around your legs
your hands
without you I’m nothing but sand

Rewinding and forgetting
The drizzle drop trickle
of bloodletting
her name is Rio and she dances

Days go by without tearing a page
dear dark one
down farther still
You leave lipstick marks on my ankles
a crisscross Tic-Tac-Toe stain

On your elbows
and eyelids
the shadow of my dreamscape lands
in a post coital recall
sleeping in someone else’s

Pour me another
my monkey twin
you say
pose your best pout for me
then twirl
twirl again
without the onset of a recovery

We will be the sun
