A new month beginning
another set of dates counting down
to something more,
and we here now
with miles in-between
waitng for the end of Summer to come

But this right now
its not even the start
yet right now it feels just like an ending
with all these inconsistants stuck together

Still the day rises
high above the swaying palm trees
they bow before us with a wink and a nod
as if they know our secrets

Even the ones we choose to ignore
maybe those especially

Do you know how I want to be there
even when the asphalt burns
each step to your door
I’d gladly scorch my skin
to be beside you

Again

But for now we have to stay the course
for now we have to be long gone
except when certain songs
play in my ears
and the numbers that make this
another year older

And we keep fading
you and I
just like the setting sun

Feel the Valley heat
the brush of those Santa Ana winds
they paint this distance across our skin

Despite it all
I’m still waiting

So take a deep breath
and I’ll do the same
as we sing oursevles another wordless hello
