My eyes see everything :: Friday Five

“The soul, fortunately, has an interpreter – often an unconscious but still a faithful interpreter – in the eye.”
~ Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

The eyes are the windows to the soul, or so they say. For me, they are my favorite feature on any person, that and their hands. There is something unfiltered in eyes, something honest and vulnerable. Eyes tell things that words never do, and they can connect two people in such an intrinsic way. There is intimacy in the eyes, or there can be.

When I think of people I’ve known in my life, it is their eyes I remember first. Always.

Here are my top five eyes songs:

Editor’s note: there are so many this was near impossible to trim down. I may need to do a playlist to accompany.

1. Eyes Without a Face :: Billy Idol

“I spend so much time,
believing all the lies,
to keep the dream alive.”

2. In Your Eyes :: Peter Gabriel

“Love,
I don’t like to see so much pain,
so much wasted,
and this moment keeps slipping away.”

3. Pale Blue Eyes :: The Velvet Underground

“Linger on,
your pale blue eyes.”

4. Temptation Eyes :: Blake Babies

“He’s got something that moves my soul,
and he knows I’d love to love him,
and he lets me down every time.
Can’t make him mine,
he’s no one’s lover.”

5. Blue Eyes Cryin’ in the Rain :: Willie Nelson

“In the twilight glow, I see you,
blue eyes cryin’ in the rain.
When we kissed goodbye and parted,
I knew we’d never meet a-gain.”

“Poets are damned… but see with the eyes of angels.”
~ Allen Ginsberg
