John Bach of Mount Holly :: Keep Art Alive :: 10 Questions Project

1. What music (or other art form) inspires you when you create your art?

Any thing with a good groove, heart, and soul. Something that makes me feel something and gets me out of my head.

2. Long distance road trip: what three people do you invite along (fictional or non-fictional, dead or alive)?

Keith Moon, Louis C.K., Optimus Prime (for the free ride, of course).

3. What is your favorite breakfast cereal?

I should probably say something healthy, but the truth is… Frosted Flakes with slices of banana. I guess the bananas are healthy.

4. What is one thing that is hanging on your bedroom wall?

I have an oil on canvas painting of a single rose in my bedroom. It used to hang over the bar at a club in OC called The Gypsy Lounge where me and Jameson first met when we weren’t even old enough to drink. We played shows alongside now more notable artists like Jay Buchanan and Rocco DeLuca and were all crushed when the club got shut down recently to make room for a Buffalo Wild Wings. I will cherish that booze soaked, cigarette burned rose painting forever.

Editor’s note: I miss The Gypsy Lounge, too!

5. What smell/scent evokes strong memories for you?

Rain on asphalt.

6. Coffee or tea?

7. What has been the most impactful compliment, or criticism, you have ever received?

“No body cares.” I started touring with much older, experienced musicians when I was 15. I would be really hard on myself when I would make minor mistakes playing with them live. One of the more seasoned musicians noticed and pulled me aside to remind me that no one cares about me because they’re all worried more about themselves. It was a disheartening realization for a young kid with a young ego, but it grounded me, took away my anxiety, and made me a better and more confident player.

8. Three words that describe you?

Consistent, Humorous, Rebellious.

9. What is/was your cartoon character crush?

Bart Simpson

10. The world is ending in ten minutes and you get to listen to one, and only one, song: Which song?

Debussy, Clair de lune (Suite bergamasque)

Clair de lune :: Debussy (Suite bergamasque)

Editor’s note: so beautiful.

I discovered Mount Holly when I went to review Jimmy Gnecco during his residency at The Hotel Cafe. Mount Holly was sharing the 4-week residency, and they completely blew me away (read review here).

I am BEYOND THRILLED that they have just received a record deal and released their first single and video…and I CANNOT WAIT to see what they do next, and hear their debut album.

Stay tuned for more details on this amazing band here at lyriquediscorde for news on the album and any upcoming live dates – because THIS is a band that you MUST see live.
