Keep Art Alive :: “Bluewoods” :: Art by Kelly Vivanco

“I can’t remember the last thing that you said as you were leavin’,
now the days go by so fast.”

by me

It was never the chill that did it
icy mornings and those long dark nights
were not the  cause
for this internal break in stride

The cold air ignited us
bringing skin-to-skin to stay warm
conversations crackled like a living room fire
as we grew closer under the shrinking sun

No, it was never winter’s fault
nor the blame of the bluest of mornings
it was the last page torn from a list of promises
and one more thing that would never be mine

So goodbye December
and so-long to all the words still left to say
because as that clock turned a new year over
we both knew it was long past time

for us to go
