Awaiting “Summer was a Day” :: Pete Yorn :: My Top 10

A new album is on the horizon from one of my favorite artists. Pete Yorn shared this “teaser” entitled Summer was a Day today. The instrumental sounds are melodic, and the video images out and around Hollywood, ending at the top of the Capital Records are stunning.

Summer was a Day Teaser

All of this together is promising, and as the suspense builds, so does my anticipation. He teased that something is coming this Friday. Will it be the full release of the teased song? The full album? Some other news?

In the meantime, while we wait, I thought I’d do a Top 10 list of my favorite Pete Yorn songs. I’d love to hear what yours are, too – let me know in the comments.

10. Rock Crowd (live)
originally from the album, PY (2010)

oh, my life makes perfect sense,
and everything we get from the shared experience.
After the show,
we can smile together,
but only I know how it starts
in the morning again.”

9. Country (live)
originally from the album, Back & Fourth (2009)

“In the days when we were living in the city,
it seemed that we were talking more.
I can never love you like the way you love me,
and these are things I can’t ignore.”

8. Turn of the Century
from the album, Day I Forgot (2003)

“So I wondered
when this day will end.
Yeah, I wondered
if we’d speak again.
Yeah, I wonder.”

7. Social Development Dance (live)
originally from the album, Back & Fourth (2009)

“There’s something missing in us,
we longed to make it whole,
though it never felt like it,
I know you had it all.
I know you had it all.”

6. June
from the album, Musicforthemorningafter (2001)

“You could have stayed until June.”

5. Alive
from the album, Nightcrawler (2006)

“You say you feel all broke and discarded,
what’s on your mind, baby?
You know you’ll get on well once you’ve started
over again.”

4. Close
originally from the album, Back & Fourth (2009)

“Just stay close,
wait for the stars,
until they realign –
just like the first time.
The first time…”

3. Long Time Nothing New
from the album, Back & Fourth (2009)

“I’ve seen you this way before,
life’s strained but true.
Well, what are we waiting for?”

2. Crystal Village (live)
originally from the album, Day I Forgot (2003)
editor’s note: I was at this show

“It was good in the beginning.”

1. Strange Condition
