But every night I call your name :: Random Song of the Day

Burn :: The Cure
from the album, The Crow: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1994)

“So slide back down and close your eyes,
sleep a while,
you must be tired.”

My first car was this piece of crap red Honda, two doors, hatchback, manual transmission, bad radiator, temperamental tail lights, on its last legs, automotive love of my life. That last part, yeah, I meant it. She was that one car that I will never forget, and the one I truly loved. She represented freedom to me, and adventure. She held my secrets, she carried me and my dearest friends all over Southern California. She was there for me when I was at my happiest, and at my lowest moments.

She also had a cassette player and speakers that worked better, and more consistently, than the rest of her.

I made countless mixed tapes, sometimes a new one a week. Anyone who follows this space regularly will not be surprised by this, as I still make copious amounts of playlists, often weekly, if not more. Friends would tell me that they knew it was a Laura-mix-tape if The Cure was on it, sometimes a Cure song on each side, and yes, sometimes more.

I was making a playlist recently and ended up putting two Cure songs on it. I didn’t notice it right away. I didn’t notice it until a few days later. Finding it made me smile and remember that car I loved and the music we played in her.

This was one of the two songs. It is a track off of The Crow soundtrack, one of my all-time favorite soundtracks, one that I tend to want to hear this time of year. Some music just feels like August to me, and October. Are there any songs, or artists, that feel that way to you?
