“Did you say ‘no, this can’t happen to me,?
And, did you rush to the phone to call?
Was there a voice unkind in the back of your mind,
saying maybe you didn’t know him at all?
You didn’t know him at all,
oh, you didn’t know.”
Goodbye
by me
This may be taken as misunderstanding
the approach to my departure
the confrontation of a lie
You may try to take my hand in yours
playing recall roulette with all the meant-to-be’s
but we both know where you sleep at night
And where I do
This may be the last big mistake made
the finality of it’s over
the declaration that I don’t believe
You may sing out tried and true blue melodies
tuning the strings and chords between each of my ribs
turning this cage where my heart hides into song
but we both know that you were never mine to keep
And that it’s time to let you go
