Keep Art Alive :: The 10 Questions Project :: Featuring Adam Jones from Scarlett Parade
1. What music (or other art form) inspires you when you create your art?
We tend to take inspiration for our writing from sources outside of music, we’re fans of works of fiction and poetry. I suppose inevitably there’s always going to be a shadow of the music you love within your own work and we’re big Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac and Bruce Springsteen fans.
2. Long distance road trip: what three people do you invite along (fictional or non-fictional, dead or alive)?
To join Scarlett Parade on the road:
George R R Martin so we can talk Game of Thrones!
Malcolm Tucker from the Thick of it for the hilarity.
Beethoven for the music.
3. What is your favorite breakfast cereal?
I don’t tend to eat cereal but this has made me think of Cheerios!
4. What is one thing that is hanging on your bedroom wall?
A poster of Bob Dylan playing the bass.
5. What smell/scent evokes strong memories for you?
It’s always nice going home to the Isle of Man and catching the scent of the salty sea breeze that seems to envelope the Island.
6. Coffee or tea?
Coffee, I was recently given a Gaggia coffee machine and bean grinder so I’m slowly learning the intricacies that go into brewing a good cup of coffee.
7. What has been the most impactful compliment, or criticism, you have ever received?
It’s always nice hearing from those close to you, such as family, that they’re enjoying the music you’re creating and are proud of what you’re doing.
8. Three words that describe you?
Geoff once described the band a pseudo-folk/rock which I thought was quite apt.
9. What is/was your cartoon character crush?
I can’t say I’ve ever had a cartoon crush!
10. The world is ending in ten minutes and you get to listen to one, and only one, song: Which song?
Every time I’m asked to pick out one song it always seems to change but right now, Bob Dylan’s Mr Tambourine Man.
Mr. Tambourine Man :: Bob Dylan
Editor’s Note:A thought provoking choice. Have you ever covered any Dylan before?
I recently discovered Scarlett Parade, a UK chamber pop/alt-folk/indie pop band who combine the singer-songwriter lyrical magic with gorgeously lush melodies. Adam Jones and Geoffrey Tinkler are inspired lyrically by authors and poets such as Tolkien, W.B. Yeats and Edgar Allen Poe (YES! Literary lyrics – love it!). Scarlett Parade’s music is dreamy and inspirational, beautiful really, songs that you just don’t want to stop listening to.
