Up on stage with your precious guitar :: SOTD

“You said I was different,
stood in a class of my own.
You said you’d follow me home,
but here I am all alone,
because they got you.”

Want & Wonder
by me

It all comes down to the promises we don’t make
and it all falls down because of the same
trusting in the late night exchange
of shared breathing in a room that feels like I belong
but I don’t belong

Not when the sun comes up
not when the lights turn brighter than the stars
the barrier is nothing but a symbol
of everyone standing in our way
because neither of us jump
when we say we’re ready to

There are so many waiting in the alleyways
permanent markers pointing at bared skin
clutching pics and picture perfect smiles
while you hold my hand under the merchandise table
fingering x’s and oh’s on my palm
as if to say you are mine

But they all want your shadows and songs
the way that she did back when were nothing but gone
the ties that bind you to her they still remain
but who am I to say when I am still tangled up in chains
yet it still rips me to shreds to see her face
to hear the declarations of all those widening eyes

Tell me where I fit in the chaos and clatter
while all our truths lay buried deep in lyrics
and this sinking midnight sand
we ebb and flow backwards and then back to here again
I can taste the salt on your lips when they meet mine
turning me weak when you hold me this way
fading slowly like a healing bruise

Like an exchange of never say goodbye
but we always end up saying it just the same
we always end up with me here
and you there
oh darling, I don’t know if I’m strong enough for this
I don’t know if I ever will be

  1. You write really well, I’m so glad to have found your blog. Your bio is brilliant, I think we may be kindred spirits! Do you like Elliott Smith too? Seriously though, it’s really well done. You’ve described yourself as so many things that you kind of transcend all the labels, like you’re no more one thing than any other, and I really like that. It’s certainly made me think.
I just wanted to tell you I really enjoy your poems and I look forward to them xo

    1. Nice to meet you. Yes, I LOVE Elliott Smith. SO MUCH. Thank you for your kind words. I do believe we are all many things all at once, and no label describes anyone. Hope you enjoy reading…I’m going to check out your blog now, too.
