Songs About Kissing
If I were to make a list of favorite things to do within that list, in the Top 10 level, kissing would be there. A kiss is one of the most sensual, intimate and, well, fun things to do. I am a big fan of kissing. I can remember, vividly, every first kiss I’ve ever had, and I can recall, as distinctly, the best kisses, and the worst kisses.
The best, I can summon them into my mind like a movie on the screen. Music is usually what triggers the memory, or sometimes smell; a certain perfume or cologne, a hair spray scent, the an ocean breeze. The smell of pool chlorine does it, too, awakening in my memory one of the best first kisses I have ever had in my life, if not the best.
Sometimes the worst were not bad kisses at all, but they were last kisses, goodbye kisses, kisses at airport terminals, or in cars pulled over on the side of the road. They meant endings, and so no matter how amazing they felt at the time, they have been shadowed over with sadness, and loss. Though, that said, there are some lousy kissers I’ve had the displeasure of locking lips with. Mostly though, I’ve been damn lucky in the kiss department.
Top five kisses? Well, I will not “kiss and tell“, but I will say that one was by a pool, one in a car in the snow, one in a crowded club, one in a parking structure, and one outside of a coffee place. There are other memorable ones, enough so that I feel like five is not enough, just like it feels a travesty to have only five kissing songs to list, but if you come back tomorrow there may be an entire “kissable” playlist that will celebrate kisses that signify love, and kisses that say goodbye.
“A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous.” ~ Ingrid Bergman
“Our only kiss was like an accident- a beautiful gasoline rainbow.” ~ Alice Sebold, The Lovely Bones
“There are two ways to reach me: by way of kisses or by way of the imagination. But there is a hierarchy: the kisses alone don’t work.” ~ Anaïs Nin, Henry And June
“A kiss about apple pie a la mode with the vanilla creaminess melting in the pie heat. A kiss about chocolate, when you haven’t eaten chocolate in a year. A kiss about palm trees speeding by, trailing pink clouds when you drive down the Strip sizzling with champagne. A kiss about spotlights fanning the sky and the swollen sea spilling like tears all over your legs.” ~ Francesca Lia Block
“Well, it’s either kiss me or kill me, that’s how I see it.” ~ Tom Waits
“A kiss that is never tasted, is forever and ever wasted.” ~ Billie Holiday
Here are my top five “kissing” songs for this week’s Friday Five. This one was so terribly hard to narrow down to five. What are yours?

“‘Cos I’m kissing you,
oh, I’m kissing you.”

“One more kiss before I go,
one more night and day,
breath all heavy and slow.
One shot, one beer and a kiss before I go.”
3. Kiss & Tell :: Bryan Ferry

but I will never,
know what they mean.”
4. Steal My Kisses :: Ben Harper

you know I’m gonna be right there behind you.”

“So, we laughed,
we had a drink,
we had a smoke,
she took off her overcoat.”
