“And I want to rock your gypsy soul,
just like way back in the days of old,
and together we will flow into the mystic
Come on, girl,
too late to stop now.”

by me
inspired by a moment with a Van Morrison song

In that room with the lights turned down
you asked what I thought of the spinning sound
and I said I never did care much for Van Morrison

but this song
on that night
with the shadows playing on your skin
and you teasing the strings to play along
leaning in to sing about my gypsy soul
I heard that magic I’d missed before

Halfway through you took my hand
leaving your six-stringed safety behind
and we danced until the fog horn blew
and the needle hit the paper
the song long gone
but you kept singing to me anyway

And I don’t know where this is supposed to go
or if it is to go at all
I know we have our share of troubles and doubts
and feuds without fortunes to find

I know we have had so many stops and starts
enough to say maybe we should end it here

yet I keep finding my way back to this room
where I find my soul swimming in your eyes
and you are there singing this song

I keep coming back to where this gypsy soul
feels like she’s finally coming home
