Songs about Coffee

As my blog side-descriptor will attest, I am a coffee lover, as well as a music obsessive. Coming up with a list of songs about coffee is something I have done more than once, I even have a few Spotify playlists of that caffeinated ilk. So, as I sit here with music playing out of my work space speakers, and have a coffee at the ready on my right side, it occurred to me that today’s Friday Five could be songs about coffee.

Tea will get its time, too, so those of you are tea enthusiasts (I play at being one now and then) – tune in next week! But, right now, it is coffee’s moment, and the following five songs are my picks for favorites that sing the songs of coffee, and coffee lovers, songs I love to sing-a-long to, between sips, that is.

Friday Five

5. You’re So Vain :: Carly Simon
from the album, No Secrets

I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee.”

4. Tom’s Diner :: DNA, featuring Suzanne Vega

I finish up my coffee,
it’s time to catch the train.”

3. One More Cup of Coffee :: The White Stripes
from the album, The White Stripes

Your breath is sweet,
your eyes are like two jewels in the sky.
Your back is straight,
your hair is smooth,
on the pillow where you lie.
But I don’t sense affection,
no gratitude or love,
your loyalty is not to me,
but to the stars above

(I love the original, too)

2. Black Coffee in Bed :: Squeeze
from the album, Sweets From a Stranger

There’s a stain on my notebook where your coffee cup was.”

1. Coffee & TV :: Blur
from the album, 13

So, give me coffee and TV,
I’ve seen so much,
I’m goin blind,
and I’m braindead virtually.
it’s hard enough for me.
Take me away from this big bad world,
and agree to marry me,
so we can start all over again.”
