Keep Art Alive :: “Ramones I Remember You” :: Art by Brigette Brigade
“Are you going to live your life,
standing in the back looking around?
Are you going to waste your time?
Got to make a move or you’ll miss out.”
Some days I miss the jangly, garbled up mess of my youth. The era of dancing nights away on a weekly basis, of record store jobs and thrift store finds, and kisses shared with newly met strangers that had that delicious possibility of “being something”. I miss the dresses and over-the-knee boots, the smell of hair dye nearly permanently wafting from my bathroom, and the shoe box full of mixed tapes I used to carry around in my car.
At that time I lived very much in the moment. This small spell of time where I jumped without thinking twice, and never thought much about tomorrow. I did not waste time stuck in the nostalgic web of looking back, at least not as much as I find myself doing now. I had less worries, less of a “what’s next” perspective, and yes, I was a bit of a mess, but sometimes I miss being that version of me.
Some days I need to remember to dance more, to sing at the top of my lungs more, and to take at least a fifteen minute break from so many worries and stresses. Sometimes I need to remember to live.
Y’know, you’re a great writer.
and I LOVE this song, and that entire album brings back very specific memories for me.
Thank you so much…that means a lot.
I love the album so much – so many memories – overflowing with them really.
It reminds me of a winter when I lived in Niagara Falls and the people I spent time with but I don’t like most of them now;)
Your welcome, and really because you have a way with words. The first paragraph was just beautiful.
