California :: Mazzy Star
from the album, Seasons Of Your Day

California is the first single released off the long-awaited new album by Mazzy Star, Seasons Of Your Day, which was released on September 24 in the United States, and on September 23, in the United Kingdom, from Rhymes Of The Hour, Mazzy Star’s own label.

Seasons Of Your Day was recorded by the original Mazzy Star lineup, co-written and co-produced by Hope Sandoval and David Roback in California and Norway. It features contributions from the late Bert Jansch and My Bloody Valentine’s Colm Ó Cíosóig.

Seasons Of Your Day is the band’s first new album in seventeen years.

The video (see above) features slowed-down live performance footage, from the band’s 2012 Coachella performance, with ambient interstitial shots of the band’s current neighborhood, in California.

Editor’s Note: One of my favorite bands release a song about California that is haunting and soothing, all at the same time. I collect songs about California and Los Angeles, partially because  I have a soft spot for where I am from, and partially because I enjoy the varied ways people perceive this place I live in.
