Keep Art Alive :: The 10 Questions Project :: Featuring Zach Reynolds of Graveyard Lovers

1. What music (or other art form) inspires you when you create your art?

Well, there’s a lot that inspires me but I always tend to listen to really old American music before i get to writing. Delta blues mostly, it takes me right to that secret place where this stuff comes from, reminds me of home. Also documentary films. I write about social issues sometimes and they inspire me a lot. I think they’re one of the most important art forms we have .

2. Long distance road trip: what three people do you invite along (fictional or non-fictional, dead or alive)?

Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and Bob Marley.

3. What is your favorite breakfast cereal?

Coffee haha, I don’t drink milk so cereal doesn’t happen.

4. What is one thing that is hanging on your bedroom wall?

This great little piece of art made for me by a an old friend just before I moved to New York. Its got a quote by Rainer Maria Rilke.

5. What smell/scent evokes strong memories for you?

Sweet olive, its a tree/bush that’s all over New Orleans, in the spring the whole city explodes with this scent.

6. Coffee or tea?

7. What has been the most impactful compliment, or criticism, you have ever received?

Lately we’ve gotten a lot of great compliments about our music. They seem real and those are the most impactful, you need them to keep you going.

8. Three words that describe you?

Neurotic, loud and tall.

9. What is/was your cartoon character crush?

The sexy cartoon blond from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

10. The world is ending in ten minutes and you get to listen to one, and only one, song: Which song?

Bob Dylan, “Not Dark Yet” from the Time Out of Mind album.

Not Dark Yet :: Bob Dylan

What a great end of the world song!

Feel free to download, listen, recommend them to your friends, lovers, family, co-workers, and why not, even to your favorite nemesis. It was because of a good friends recommendation that I heard Graveyard Lovers recently, his enthusiasm, coupled with him saying that he thought I would dig them, had me searching and listening immediately – I have been loving their songs ever since.

This was the first song that I was introduced to:

Dreamers (live from the Artie Lange Show)
