Warm Bodies (2013) “Don’t be creepy. Don’t be creepy. Don’t be creepy.” ~ R Trailer “What’s wrong with me?” It is not very often that I will watch a film and immediately lock onto it in a way that makes it certain that it will become, and remain, one of my favorite movies. When it does I know it, though, and am usually immediately burning to tell people about it. Warm Bodies, which I watched this afternoon, is one of those films. I could say that I should have known I loved it because a) I am a sucker for … Continue reading Everybody’s got a hungry heart :: favorite movies

You can’t start a fire, worryin’ about your little world falling apart :: song of the day

“Message keeps getting clearer, radios on and I’m moving round the place. I check my look in the mirror, I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face. Man, I ain’t getting nowhere, just sitting in a dump like this. There’s something happening somewhere, baby I just know that there is.” The evening was cooler than the time of year would predict and I was standing there beside you, shivering. I had forgotten a jacket, had been nervous when I left, trying to wear a mask on my face that would not give away where I was going. No one … Continue reading You can’t start a fire, worryin’ about your little world falling apart :: song of the day

You can’t fly away :: songs and poetry

Story Re-Writes (by me) Beneath the surfaces of love, interlocking webs lie, tangled and varied in direction, latching on and letting go. Sometimes the synapse fires, inducing benevolence, belief. At other ends the water leaks in, laced in doubt, as we begin to sink. Miles pass between us, even while sitting side by side, and the soul is seen waving, mailing a postcard home; wish you weren’t still here. Then we struggle upstream, break the mold while wet, unformed, and we carve our initials, into the glued up cracks, repairs from the fall. The fog will return again, our feet … Continue reading You can’t fly away :: songs and poetry

You should have stayed at home yesterday :: musical sensory recall

“Aha this kiss you give, it’s never ever gonna fade away.” I remember a particular day, sometime in the Summer of 1987, sitting in the backseat of a friend’s car with this song blaring out of the speakers. The beach was just outside the window, though it was still too foggy to see the water. I could smell the salt in the air though, as it swirled around my blowing hair, all the windows down as we drove into an unknown adventure. I do not recall where we were going, or much of the day and night’s activities. I know … Continue reading You should have stayed at home yesterday :: musical sensory recall

Dirty and sweet, clad in black (oh yeah) :: Under the covers

Bang a Gong (Get It On) :: The Power Station “Well you’re built like a car, you’ve got a hub cap diamond star halo, you’re built like a car, oh yeah.” I never quite knew what a hub cap diamond star halo would look like, or what to make of it at all, but as we waited at the side of the stage I knew it did not really matter. The guitar riffs, the bass vibrations, and the way they moved and made magic with their fingers, it unleashed feelings that confused and delighted me. I was younger than I … Continue reading Dirty and sweet, clad in black (oh yeah) :: Under the covers

Do you miss me? :: Two Tune Saturday

Keep Art Alive :: “Sarah’s Secret” :: Art by Jolene Lai Miss Misery :: Elliott Smith “Next door the TV’s flashing, blue frames on the wall, it’s a comedy of errors, you see, it’s about taking a fall. To vanish into oblivion, is easy to do, and I try to be, but you know me, I come back when you want me to.” I woke this morning with this song heavy in my consciousness, cloying, penetrating, like the oppressive warmth of the humid room, and the dry-from-thirst feeling in the back of my throat. It comes crashing down on me, … Continue reading Do you miss me? :: Two Tune Saturday
