Last time I was here it was raining :: Quotes and music

“We make these ridiculous idols so we can pray to what’s behind them, but what happens after we get up the ladder? Do we simply stare at what is horrible and forgive it? Here is the river, and here is the box, and here are the monsters we put in the box to test our strength against.” ~ Richard Siken, Snow and Dirty Rain Dirty Rain (live) :: Ryan Adams Continue reading Last time I was here it was raining :: Quotes and music

The 80’s :: Now its fading fast

“I touch you once, I touch you twice, I won’t let go at any price. I need you now, like I needed you then, you always said we’d still be friends, someday.” History Lesson:  If You Leave, by OMD, was recorded for the soundtrack to the film Pretty in Pink (1986) where it was played prominently during the final scene. It is the band’s best-known and highest-charting single in the United States, where it reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May of 1986. The song became an international hit, also reaching the Top 5 in Canada and New Zealand, and charting at … Continue reading The 80’s :: Now its fading fast

The day’s still ashes and wine :: Songs and poetry

Read the Last Page First (by me) Fifteen steps, and one was still dragging behind, shouting out the names of the planets, wishing and hoping for the moon to fall, leaving sparks on the pavement, skinned knee possibilities. Hop skip and a jump, here’s to the next coupon clipped decision, he whispers a late night talk show dream, in cahoots with her dirty dish dismay, he knows Minnie Mouse and Priscilla, left those rats behind. She packs heat, and a road side diner matchbook, all in her polka dot bag. Did the fall playlist preview these faded regrets? Pages worn, … Continue reading The day’s still ashes and wine :: Songs and poetry

Keep Art Alive :: “A Beautiful Mess” :: Art by Joshua Petker It was the year before the last real school year. The year he left us, and left me with no more outside, visible scars; I just tried not to mention the one’s on the  inside, those you have to learn to live with. God and I had come to an understanding, it was time to not believe, and all the fake walls around me, they just went too far. I found enough of a voice to say no more – to so many things. The it was change, change, … Continue reading Please don’t let me hit the ground :: song of the day

I feel the sun on my back :: Songs and poetry

All lines are erased, or just set to blur, fake glass over expired eyes, pulled through the begin. Schemes written on flesh, permanent marker stained, once held the same bedsheets, whispered anticipated resolve. Tissue paper pleading, all spun up in circles, the notes hinged on forgiveness, two sets of feet leaving. One piece holds tight, opens arms up to slung arrows, the other stumbles hard, breaking melody and mercury. Once it was electricity, sizzled through beats and pulse, now it bestows sharp judgements, everyone choose a side. Two can only map these borders, pushing in the same directions, or at … Continue reading I feel the sun on my back :: Songs and poetry

But time makes you bolder :: Under the covers

Landslide :: Antony Hegarty What a gorgeous cover of Landslide; I am in musical awe. I have always loved this song, and I have always loved Antony’s voice, so much. “Oh, mirror in the sky what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?“ Continue reading But time makes you bolder :: Under the covers

The Skyline shines :: Songs and prose

The city never gave us much of a chance, and neither did I, I suppose, too many broken pieces that were not yet glued together, too many expectations, and too small of space to allow for us to settle in with each other Perhaps I am peering into this part of the story because for a good long time I pretended to erase the memories, most of the time I am Clementine, but other times I try to recall that perhaps I was once like Lisa to Matthew, or Trixie to Jacob Grace,  until I screwed it up as I … Continue reading The Skyline shines :: Songs and prose
