Ryan Bingham :: Spotify Sessions
My favorite artist discovery of 2012 was Ryan Bingham, and my favorite album of the year was Ryan Bingham’s album Tomorrowland. Tomorrowland was a right place at the right time kind of musical discovery, coming in to my life when I was thrashing about emotionally trying to settle into some major lifestyle choices in the midst of unforseen professional changes. As much as I felt in charge of my decisions, including proposing to my now husband, I still felt swept up in a whirlwind of choice and change, and it was music that I clung to in order to be able to keep breathing. Ryan brought to me peace and release, the chance to sing at the top of my lungs and let go, as well as feel the comfort of someone who seems to be both world-weary and hopeful. His music was just what i needed.
Towards the end of 2012, Ryan recorded a few songs in the Spotify studios and the result is four great songs from Ryan, recorded live, interspersed with great conversation with Ryan about breaking away from a major label and recording on his own, and what has come out of all of that. There is also a few “behind the music” moments where Ryan talks about some of his songs, and what inspired them. If Ryan’s music is new to you, this might be the perfect way to get a taste of his sound and style, as well as an introduction of what it is like to see Ryan perform live, which I enthusiastically encourage everyone to do, if he plays near you in the future.
