“The know that Santa’s on his way.”
There is a special place in my heart reserved for Nat King Cole that has been there since I was a young girl. I would spend the better part of my Christmas vacation at my Grandparents’ house, and would help my Grandmother with the decorating, the cookie baking, the gift wrapping (often even wrapping my own gifts, unknowingly, as my Grandmother would disguise them in undescriptive boxes to wrap and only reveal they were mine when I went to fill in the to/from tags). During our holiday projects my Grandmother would play holiday albums, her favorite being her Perry Como album, and mine being Nat King Cole.
Later, when I was older, his music attached even deeper in my heart when I fell in love with the film Untamed Heart (a movie that takes place during Christmas, and that includes the Nat King Cole song, Nature Boy).
It never quite feels like Christmas until I hear this song for the first time in the season, and it always reminds me of my Grandparents, and how much I miss them, especially this time of year.
