I’ve never been all that fond of Sherlock Holmes in any of the many incarnations there have been, both literary and on film. Well, that is until BBC One introduced me to their modernized take on Sherlock and had me falling all over myself for this version of Holmes and Watson, and as of the first episode of this season, Jane Adler (” A Scandal in Belgravia“).
The writing is fantastic. There is so much wit and sarcasm, innuendos, great verbal debates and conversations, characters that even if you don’t want to you end up loving and a celebration of intellect. Also, this is a very interesting take on emotions (or lack thereof), social issues, Asperger’s Syndrome, “normalcy”, perspective, how we deal when we don’t deal socially well, human nature, and, of course, how to solve a good mystery.
Oh, and also, I have a bit of a crush on both Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Lara Pulver (Irene Adler/”The Woman”)
My only complaint? That it is only 3 episodes per season.
